Does Your Vehicle Need a Smog Check?

Smog certification is a vital aspect of vehicle ownership for Glendora drivers, as it’s required in the State of California for initial vehicle registrations and every two years after that. Smog checks are also required when a vehicle changes ownership or is registered in California from out of state. 

The Smog Check Program applies to gas-powered, alternative-fuel, and hybrid vehicles manufactured in 1976 or newer and light diesel vehicles manufactured in 1998 or newer. However, there are some exceptions:

• Models that are eight years old or newer aren’t required to have a biennial smog check

• Models that are four years old or newer don’t need a smog check when changing ownership 

• Electric vehicles and motorcycles do not require a smog check
